Many congratulations to Dr Cinly Ooi (Data Manager) for his recognition as Most Valued Professional. Dr Ooi received this reward earlier this month at the 7th REDCAPCON in Portland, Oregon. The REDCAPCON is the annual conference for administrators and developers of the REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) application. Dr Ooi moderated a discussion on Globalising REDCap and was one of the ‘Ask an Expert’ panelists.
REDCap is secure, web-accessible software for building and managing surveys and databases. It can be used to collect almost any type of data, and is specifically engineered to support data capture for research studies.
The REDCap consortium consists of 1,609 active institutional partners in 92 countries who use, support and develop REDCap. It is led by Vanderbilt University and receives ongoing financial support from the National Centre for Research Resources and National Institutes of Health. There are currently more than 198,000 projects with over 273,000 users worldwide spanning a wide variety of research areas.
REDCap is a central component of the Integrated Data Environment, developed with Dr Ooi in Cambridge as an immersive digital space supporting all day-to-day study operations and data access. It is currently used by, amongst others, the Neuroscience in Psychiatry Network and BIOmarkers in DEPression (BIODEP) network. Both of these are multicentre studies funded by Wellcome Trust Strategic Awards.
The Most Valued Professional award is given to the person who has contributed the most to the REDCap Consortium over the last year. Dr Ooi is the first recipient from outside of the USA. Dr Ooi expressed his surprise at receiving the award, but acknowledged that he is very active on the mailing list with “solving problems and proposing ideas”.
Many congratulations to this achievement, Dr Ooi!
