Dr. Juan Fortea is a trained neurologist with extensive experience in the field of neurodegenerative diseases both in clinical practice and in research. Dr. Fortea obtained his PhD in the study of preclinical Alzheimer disease in sporadic and familial cohorts through the use of multimodal MRI and CSF studies. He is the principal investigator of several research projects that have led to many publications with high impact in the field. He leads the neuroimaging laboratory within the Memory Unit. He is also the coordinator of the Alzheimer disease and Down syndrome Unit. This unit has developed a worldwide pioneering population based health plan for adults with Down syndrome in Catalonia, which has also a comprehensive biomarker research program. This is one of the largest cohorts of adults with Down syndrome worldwide. In brief, Dr Fortea has a strong background in both dementia and cognitive neurology.
