For this study we are working with the Vision and Eye Research Institute at Anglia Ruskin University. We are looking at new ways to study the changes happening in the brain that are associated with Alzheimer’s disease in people with Down syndrome.
One way to do this is to look at the back of the eye (the retina). The retina is directly connected to the brain and by taking photos of the retina we hope to have a window into the brain, observing changes that may be occurring as people get older.
If you decide to take part, we will invite you to the Vision and Eye Research Institute to do some eye tests. Some of these tests will be just like having an eye test for new glasses.
We will use special cameras to photograph your eye and look at how your pupils respond to light.
We will also collect tear samples and ask you to wear a Fitbit and to complete a sleep diary for two weeks prior to arriving in Cambridge so we can learn more about your sleep patterns.
