The Department of Psychiatry celebrated a significant milestone last week with the 10th Annual Postgraduate Symposium—an event that has become a highlight of the Department’s academic calendar.
To mark the anniversary, we were honoured to welcome Professor Ed Bullmore, now Regius Professor of Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, who delivered this year’s Frantz Fanon Lecture. His talk offered a compelling, reflective journey through the history of psychiatry's understanding of schizophrenia—at times troubling, at times inspiring—interwoven with insights drawn from his own distinguished career.
At the heart of the day were our postgraduate students, who showcased the depth, quality, and diversity of research currently underway across the Department. Their presentations demonstrated both scientific rigour and creativity, and we extend our sincere thanks for their dedication and for sharing their work with the community.
We also wish to acknowledge the Principal Investigators and supervisors who attended in support of their students: Duncan Astle, Rudolf Cardinal, Paul Fletcher, Tamsin Ford, Graham Murray, Sharon Neufeld, John O’Brien, and Shahid Zaman. Their mentorship and encouragement remain instrumental in nurturing emerging researchers.
Special thanks go to Adisa Broadhurst and Autumn Stamford for their exemplary organisation of the symposium, and to the team at St Catharine's College for their warm hospitality throughout the event.
The 10th anniversary symposium was a fitting celebration of our Department’s thriving research community, and we look forward to another decade of discovery, collaboration, and academic excellence.
