Professor Valerie Voon from the Department of Psychiatry has received a Pioneer Award at the 2026 NYC Neuromodulation Conference.
The award was presented at the international conference, held in New York City from 30 July to 3 August. Professor Voon received the award alongside Professor Mark George of the Medical University of South Carolina and Professor Angel Peterchev of Duke University.
Professor Voon is Professor of Neuropsychiatry at the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on the brain mechanisms underlying self-control, impulsivity and compulsive behaviours, and on the potential of neuromodulation techniques to improve treatments for psychiatric and neurological conditions.
Reacting to the award, Professor Voon said: “I’m deeply honoured and humbled to receive the Pioneer Award at Neuromodec NYC 2026.”
She described it as a privilege to share the recognition with fellow pioneers in neuromodulation and neuroengineering, and thanked the mentors, collaborators, colleagues and research group members who have supported her work at the University of Cambridge and Fudan University.
The NYC Neuromodulation Conference brings together researchers, clinicians and innovators working across brain stimulation, neural interfaces and related technologies.
