Biography
I am an Assistant Professor and National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Advanced Fellow (2021) in Real-World Data Analytics and Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust.
I studied Medical Sciences and Natural Sciences Immunology and Virology at the University of Cambridge before completing my degree in Clinical Medicine and Surgery at the University of Oxford. I completed Academic Foundation Programme training (now known as the Specialised Foundation Programme) at the North Middlesex and Whittington hospitals, the James Wigg Practice, and University College London. I undertook an Academic Clinical Fellowship in Core Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital and University of Oxford. I was awarded a UK Medical Research Council (MRC) Clinical Research Training Fellowship, Academic Clinical Lectureship and MRC Health Data Research UK Fellowship to undertake a PhD and postdoctoral research in mental healthcare data analytics at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, King's College London.
During my PhD, I applied natural language processing (NLP) techniques to investigate clinical outcomes in people with mental disorders (major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, personality disorders and schizophrenia) using de-identified electronic health record data. I have applied these techniques in academic and industry-funded studies to better understand the associations of clinical presentation and pharmaceutical treatments with mental disorder outcomes, and to support novel approaches to clinical phenotyping in psychiatry.
